Joined-Up Thinking Environmental Design Workshop

Designing with the climate rather than against it will save you time and money. Our joined-up thinking environmental design workshop is designed to provide quick, low-cost advice to ease your way through planning and pave the way for a comfortable, long-lasting building. Together, we will identify opportunities and potential design conflicts (say, between daylight and overheating) in your project prior to planning – ideally at as early a stage as possible – then we will explore design solutions. The workshop lasts around 2 hours, for most projects, after which, you’ll receive bespoke written design advice on your project and are welcome to come back with further questions.

We will assess your project holistically from first principles, considering the building’s surroundings, as well as its interior. The design team will be supported in creating a building that work as much as possible with the local microclimate and on-site resources. Use of plants (rather than mechanical plant) is encouraged.

We have written construction guides, energy strategies, sustainability statements, masterplans and policies for spaces and places ranging from single dwellings to the city of Edinburgh.
